One of the primary drivers behind the increase was a common decision to downsize in crisis. It appears our survival brain took over in 2020 with HR holding on convinced that 2021 had to be better. However, the obstacles we are currently navigating require a marathon mentality. Instead many engaged in a 2020 sprint and now find themselves with nothing left. Days are filled by simply going through the motions. Strategic and visionary discussions seem impossible, because you are just too tired.
