Yin Yoga + Qigong Classes

Classes

These are our pay what you can – pay what you want classes. Whatever you do just come to class. If you cannot afford much, consider paying it forward; help spread the word about The HRart Center. We offer these weekly classes to support any individual that is actively on a personal restorative HRart journey.

Yin is the feminine, dark, passive, receptive, reflective, withdrawn, cool, introspective aspects of life. Yin yoga was developed to penetrate deep into connective tissue expanding flexibility while invigorating the energy centers of the body to release blockages and increase your energy flow.

This 75-minute practice focuses on static movement and breathwork. The primary difference between Yin Yoga and many other forms of yoga is that you are encouraged to NOT use your muscles and the passive poses are held for several minutes.

In an effort to help keep our community safe and healthy, we have decided to not offer in-person HRart Center classes for remainder of 2020. We hope to return in 2021.

In lieu of in-person classes, Samm has been providing weekly classes that are live streamed on YouTube. The replays are also available on our channel to be viewed at anytime.

Frequently Asked Questions

Check our FAQs, etiquette and policies below

1. The doors will be unlocked at the latest, 15-minutes before class. We recommend arriving 10 minutes early, especially if it’s your first class. This gives you time to settle in and complete any necessary paperwork. Note that, for the safety and security of our community and their belongings, we lock the door at class start time. To respect the practice, latecomers will not be permitted to enter.

2. Pay what you can. We are proud to offer these classes as pay-what-you-can, when you arrive please place any cash payments in the “pay-what-you-can-can” on the reception desk. If you’d like to pay by card, you may do so beforehand online or at the center, simply ask the instructor.

3. We recommend no shoes for class. When you arrive, please check-in at the front desk. Then set your belongings in a cubby, turn your phone off or to silent and remove your shoes.

4. Alert your instructor of any injuries. We will do our best to help you modify your practice to protect your injuries. If it is a major injury or recent surgery, we might ask for a doctor’s clearance before allowing you to practice.

5. No strong fragrances. Please be mindful to not wear heavy perfume in the studio. If you smoke, please do not smoke within an hour of class so that the odor doesn’t disturb those around you.

6. No cell phones. Leave all your distractions off the mat. Please leave cell phones and watches in a cubby. Cell phones should be on silent. If you wear a smartwatch, please turn it to “theater mode” so it does not send alerts and distractions to you or your neighbors. We also recommend wearing minimal jewelry – it just gets in the way.

7. Don’t eat before class. It is best to eat larger meals at least 60-90 minutes before your practice; or a small snack up to 30 minutes before class. Also, please don’t chew gum during class.

8. Rest when needed. Always listen to your body first and foremost. If you need to rest, there is no shame in taking a moment to pause and reconnect with your breath.

9. Kids yoga. We would love our classes to be all ages, however we realize there needs to be a minimum age to honor the class’s need for serenity. From experience, we see that well-behaved children 8 and older are appropriate to participate in the whole class. If a child is unable to maintain focus, they would need to be able to sit quietly unattended (though we are not a babysitting service, so if they do not plan to practice, they need to stay home please). A parent or guardian must attend with anyone under the age of 14.  A waiver must be signed for every student, so please be sure a parent or legal guardian is present at the minor’s first class. Henceforth, it is with permission/knowledge of the parent/guardian that minors attend class on their own and any risks associated with it; the HRart Center shall not at any point be held responsible for any minor.

10. What to wear. For Yin Yoga, it is suggested that you wear layered, comfortable clothes to move in. This cozy layers, including socks. Yin Yoga is generally a cooling practice. For Qigong, wear loose clothing that allows you to move around and stay cool.
